The Story of Googabinj

Our Story

Googabinj is the cultural identity of Craig Kemp, an Aboriginal cultural performer whose heritage traces back to the Ghungulu and Iman tribal nations of Central Queensland.

For over 28 years, Craig has travelled across Australia sharing culture in a way that is engaging, respectful, and meaningful. Through storytelling, didgeridoo, dance, language, humour, and hands-on cultural learning, Googabinj creates experiences that connect people to culture, Country, and community.

The Meaning of Googabinj

The name Googabinj, meaning Scrub Turkey, carries deep cultural significance. As Craig’s birth totem, it reflects a strong spiritual connection to land, water, and Country.

That connection sits at the heart of every performance, creating a space where culture is not only seen and heard, but truly felt.

What We Share

Googabinj shares Aboriginal culture through experiences that are interactive, memorable, and grounded in respect.

Each performance may include:

  • Storytelling
  • Didgeridoo
  • Dance and movement
  • Indigenous language
  • Cultural artefacts
  • Hands-on learning

These experiences are designed to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and create genuine cultural connection.

Why This Work Matters

Sharing culture is about keeping story strong, honouring those who came before, and passing knowledge on to future generations.

Googabinj creates meaningful opportunities for people to connect with Aboriginal culture through story, song, movement, and Country. Each experience helps build respect, curiosity, and understanding while celebrating culture as living, strong, and enduring.

More Than a Performance

Googabinj is more than something to watch — it is something to feel.

It is a space where culture is shared with heart, where learning happens through connection, and where children, educators, families, and communities are invited to engage with Aboriginal culture in a way that is joyful, genuine, and lasting.
